e’ve been reading about cases like the Philando Castile shooting in the United States. The girlfriend of Castile live streamed the incident on Facebook but the video takedown and reuploaded with a warning. The reason given behind these killings is the racial difference that prevails in the society. Maybe it does or doesn’t, but it definitely affects the lives of the people connected to the victims of such cases.The obvious aftermaths and outrages for such cases arrived sooner than expected. Five policemen were given a death penalty by a black sniper named Micah Johnson when a peaceful protest was going on in Dallas. Micah, 25, was a member of the US military reserve forces. He had served in Afghanistan between November 2013 and July 2014.The Guardian reports that according to David Brown, the Dallas police chief, the shooter did it all on his own. He focused on police officers while he was busy with his gun firing from an elevated point above the protest area.
During the interrogation the suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter, David said in the press conference. “He said he was upset about the recent shootings, he was upset with white people. The suspect said he wanted to kill people, especially white officers.”
Now, a new drama that has grabbed our attention is the use of a bomb-disposal robot–believed to be the first time in US history–by the Dallas Police Department to kill a suspect after the open fire had been done on five police officers.
“We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was,” David told the reporters.
Until now, such type of remotely controlled robot was used in military operations. In the Dallas case, explosive devices were tied to the manipulator arm of the robot, which moves with the help of tank tread.
Probably designed to accomplish other tasks, this robot was used as a killing machine. It reminds me of the movie Chappie. This remote-controlled robot can be considered as an early man in the timeline of manhunting and destruction causing robots which are being used by law enforcement forces.
